Creative Writing Anthology
We're currently undergoing a bit of a redesign, hence why everything's so sparse. Check back in a few weeks to see the leaps and bounds we've made!

We hold regular editorial meetings every Wednesday, at 6:30pm, in the FR Leavis Room in both the Autumn and Spring terms - during Summer, we enter our production schedule, which demands a different focus from (usually) a much smaller number of people. Editorial meetings are always open to newcomers.

If you want to join, the first thing you’ll want to do is sign up over at our mailing list - that’s where we send out our weekly submissions packs, so it’s vital that you’re subscribed.

If you’re more interested in designing or formatting the anthology, your best bet is to speak to whoever’s leading the meeting that week - they can point you in the direction of our head of production, and they’ll talk to you on a one-to-one basis to find out how you can help.

Here’s what getting involved could open up for you:

    • An introduction to a thriving editorial team. Each week, we’ll take a selection of submissions and test the merits of each one, eventually coming to a group consensus on what goes through, and what doesn’t. These tend to vary in size - sometimes, it might just be four or five, whereas at others we can number around thirty to forty. In addition to seeing the anthology take shape before your eyes, and have an active part in deciding the content that goes in a book, you’ll also develop your critical skills and maybe learn a thing or two about your own writing along the way!
    • A way to produce something special. We are one of the few societies on campus who end up with something tangible and real for our efforts - by the end of the year, you’ll have your own copy of a book you helped to make. We need cover designers, formatters, artists, proofreaders, and so on, ranging from the technologically brilliant to those with more Luddite sensibilities.
    • A feeling of keeping your finger on the pulse. York has one of the best English departments in the country (although it should be added that we’re open to any student on campus), and you never know - one student writer today could go on to be the bestseller of the future!
